The M16 *IS* 1960's technology, dumbass.
That's why they're in the process of testing replacements.
We're talking polymer cased rounds at 75K+ PSI.
>>1213026(OP)
you got sauce for those kick ass pics?
in exchange, I'll answer your question: it's not worth the investment, in terms of equipment. soldiers are used, because they're cheaper than missiles. if they start topping that, they're no longer of as much value.
so it's a balance between value/effectiveness. also, a lot of new gear is pretty slick.
ATAKS, while not quite as sexy as some of that stuff, is absolutely a next gen game changer.
>>1213026(OP)
You're not wrong but the old shit we use is mostly because it's simple and effective.
Should we invest RnD shekels to make better, simpler weapons and armor? Fuck yeah, but it costs a lot and ZOG doesn't want to fork over shekels on those kinds of projects if they can just buy shit they know works already.
Innovation in a late stage mercantile republican empire is sparse, especially in the government.
You realize that even if soldiers started wearing magically light armored exosuits like your pic, the first thing every country would do is replace their main infantry rifle with something that could penetrate it.
>>1213026(OP) >look at all this cool and expensive stuff we could buy
Retard doesn’t understand logistics or the cost of arming our entire armed forces with gear like this
>>1213026(OP)
So fun fact we actually have the technology to come up with the systems on the right, like very easily, the government experimented with it back in the early 2000, iirc it was called the dragon warrior project or something like taht, bascially a blend of tech and soldier. They had an onboard computer with shit ton of tactical data, optics out the ass, ect ect, And it was actually pretty damn effective. The problem was, the system cost like, close to a million a soldier, and the result was, it was far more cost effective to to throw 3 soldiers or more with the same, slightly upgraded gear, a a problem then a single teched out soldier. Because the 3 lower teched out always surpassed the single every single time.
So its not a matter of we fucking cant, its a matter of it costs to much and is not effective enough for the cost.

That's because Modern wars are not fought like Cold War wars.
You can't just invade a country with 100,000 troops and bomb the shit out of everything.
It comes down to insurgencies and cyber warfare these days. Having a large standing army is practically useless, a handful of good jets cleared the entire Iraqi army in 2003. Giving the military good weapons would have been less useful than brainwashing the locals.
Most of the operations are generally done by very specialized groups on targeted locations.
Most targets are hit with drones.
It's not true that "USA Military is stuck in 1980's tech at best", it's true that "USA military has maintained and kept their 1980's tech" up to the current time.
>>1213026(OP)
We tried this shit in like 2002, and at the best of times it was excess weight, and at the worst of times, the equipment actually got soldiers killed because it was an attention and security liability.
All that fancy shit does very little that cheap, discrete equipment can't do, and is attached to frankly ridiculous looking armor that doesn't seem to serve a purpose aside from aesthetics.
Modern soldiering equipment is about balancing comfort, mobility, and protection. You can put all the tech gear in a backpack.
TS SCI in Naval intelligence here.
You have no idea how potent we are right now.
The shit we use openly is just "good enough" so we don't unveil what we do have.
>>1213026(OP)
The US military is like a giant welfare program. The money is spent making those in uniform rich and supplying that life endlessly. Basically corruption.
>>1213026(OP) >comparing grunts to special forces >comparing enlisted to officers >comparing parade uniforms to battle dress >comparing POGs to door kickers
>>1213026(OP) >why dont my troops look like HALO characters
most autistic post ever? you're the kind of autist that isn't even clever, nothing going your way at all. bumping out of sympathy
>>1213026(OP)
Any army trying to use tacticool power armor in an actual war would get shrekt.
The more complex something is, the more it is prone to failure. There is rain, heat, freezing cold, sand dirt mud. All of these things fuck with your tacticool power armor soldier. You do not need a helmet with a HUD. You do not need power armor. You do not need a gun with a giant heavy camera scope. All these things are expensive and heavy and hard to maintain and power.
We could easily build all those things. We have the tech. It just wouldn't be practical to use.
>>1213026(OP)
That’s the point, they want you to think they’re lacking in technology. Why the fuck would congress give them a bigger budget each year if they knew how advanced our tech really was. They make a boogeyman out of Russia or China and congress throws money at them. For example remember the stealth Blackhawk in the bin laden raid? Notice how we’ve only ever seen the tail section from that one and that’s it? Imagine what else we have hidden away.
>>1213026(OP)
Spend 700 billion on retarded anime shit cosplay, larp faggy outfits that cost even more money to maintain, cause heat strokes in the desert and don't outweigh it's downsides just to look like fucking iron man?
OP IS A RETARD >OP IS A RETARD
OP IS A RETARD >OP IS A RETARD
OP IS A RETARD >OP IS A RETARD
OP IS A RETARD
And uniforms are different from combat gear you fucking retard! Also they're not "technology" you absolute labotomite. Fuck outta here you turbo virgin weeabo.
>>1213026(OP) >USA miliatary is stuck in 1980's tech AT BEST >posts scifi concept art that no nation on earth could make and widely use at the moment
the retarded should be euthanized
>>1213026(OP)
yet they spend trillions on their military. It's almost as if the infantry have been... wait for it... waaaaaaaait... out moded.
When China finally decided to suicide itself in the coming war... they will see pretty quickly where that money went. Then Taiwan will take up management of what's left if China. Japan, the Koreas, the Phillipines, Vietnam, India, Hong Kong and Even Russia and Mongolia will cut off a slab of that former nation. The CCP will be lined up and shot to death. The smell of roasting pork will be world wide and that will be that.
Chinese export: Appear weak when you are strong, appear strong when you are weak. China is sure trying hard to look strong after losing a trade war, wrestling with splintering city states, and getting hammered by plague.
>>1213026(OP)
I'm pretty sure the money would be better spent on weapons that are actually effective, like guided missiles, drones, tanks and warships, instead of stupid ass power-armor.
Infantry is insignificant in modern combat. It's the heavy equipment I mentioned above that wins wars. Personnel are just their to man the bases, pilot the equipment, and provide support and maintenance to that equipment. Dumping millions of dollars per soldier into this cringe-tier larp armor would be absurdly ineffective.
>>1213026(OP)
Why do you talk about tech but show pictures of clothes? Tech is in aircraft, ships, vehicles, and sometimes rucksacks. No one is going going to hump across an Iraqi desert dressed like an Imperial stormtrooper.
>>1213026(OP)
Army is switching to M4A1
Also go watch some green beret vids on youtube lol you ever play Gears of War? Theres a reason all the main characters except for Carmine didn't wear full helmets.
>>1213026(OP)
If you were in, you'd understand just how expensive everything is. Russia is only barely catching up to having the same level of equipment as a current US Army infantryman, and even then, they're still not close. Look into the Ratnik program, and then look up what our soldiers were sent to invade Iraq with back in 2003. We're decades ahead of the rest of the world, and there's still new equipment you have no clue about because you are not and never were involved with this world. Also worth mentioning, the "military budget" includes Department of Defense, Department of Homeland Security, Department of Veteran's Affairs, Department of Justice, atomic energy activities, and a plethora of other programs. Look into how big each of those departments are. A good portion of the DoD's budget is paying servicemembers and civilian employees too.
And for anyone else responding, keep your fucking mouth shut about specifics. Creeper groups and other nations have glowniggers too, don't be retarded and share too much. I am only answering on the assumption that I am satisfying the curiosity of an American citizen.
>>1213026(OP)
the support infantry have is way, way more technologically advanced than anything you would see out an exosuit. the entire point is to not have your infantry in a position where they would need an exosuit in the first place.
too much armor just makes your mobility shit and want to die when it gets hot and you sweat
exoskeletons wont work until we have the means to create batteries powerful enough to be carried in a small backpack, hybrid weapons will follow that.
Cliche masks that cover your face wont work until we improve cameras
Futuristic shit is a lie, the elements for stuff like this don't exist on this planet, we should have been exploring the solar system for these but it looks like we're just doomed to babysitting joggers.
