Seriously, what happens here? Is this the most irrelevant country in all of Europe? >no news >no major events >no major figures >no interesting history >no culture >no real achievements >no significant wars >no influence on world >only interesting former colony is a shithole in South America >outshined by its neighbor, Spain
What the absolute fuck is going on in this country? Does it have a government? Is it even populated by human beings?
I visited Lisbon once and it was pleasant. Nice weather and friendly people. The city has enough interesting things to do and see near it without being so touristy that it loses it's soul.
We get events and lots of gossip, but they just don't leave the country and no one ends up seeing anything that happens here.
It's a country with lots of potential, and one day I'll become president and >ban all gypsies, blacks and illegals in the country >cut off unemployment monetary help (you don't work, you get no money) >everyone visiting the country must come from a wealthier country than ours (romanians, for example, can't visit) >police heavily armed and educated to be violent towards people who talk shit about the government
its a country that very much sticks to itself... it doesn't want to be involved in the rest of the worlds cuckoldry which is a good thing, also >no real achievements
for its size whats its accomplished is pretty great

Lisbon earthquake in 1755 crippled the most powerful empire in the world clearing the way for the British Empire to achieve hegemony. Most of the east was discovered by the Portuguese including Australia and they were swordsmen without equal. Simply victims of chance.
potatoe-irish that's been living in portugal for past year :
Good thing about portugal : >nothing ever happens here in terms of big chimpouts or protests >as someone who is used to the news in northwest europe it's a breath of fresh air to almost never hear anything on the news about immigration, islam, sharia, etc. >Super safe, one of safest capitals in europe >People are very nice
Only downside is everything takes 10x longer than what I'm used to but it's a good trade-off
Only an american would be able to say that a country who literally started the modern age at the same time it claimed 1/2 the world and nobody could do a single fuck about it and later proceeded to dab on napoleon so hard it started his downfall.
Congratulations, you made the single most ignorant post that I ever saw on /pt/

Since there are several Portuguese here, maybe they can help me out. I've been trying to find where this quote, supposedly by Salazar, comes from: "preferir ser melhores a estar melhor". The quote may not be exactly correct, but I hope you get what it means.
ArkansasFag here, I’ve always wanted to go to Portugal for vacation one year with a friend or two, any recommendations on where to stay/go do touristy shit, also what can I do to not seem like a fucking American redneck in your country and stick out like a sore thumb
> first, biggest global empire at the time, the first spanning 4 continents > king went to war and died at 18 > the Spanish take over and fuck us over > we get completely rekt by an earthquake > the kikes come in > the king dies, enter nationalist conservative dictatorship > Communist Revolution that the Socialists wind up winning > go bankrupt
currently trying to guess when we're going bankrupt again.
Portugal is cool and Jorge Jesus is the man. The culture and the food are very rich, you're just ignorant.
The lefties in my country blame Portugal saying that they stole our gold and that's why we were so poor which is hilarious. I hope to visit Portugal someday, my great grandfather was portuguese and I love bacalhau to death.
>>874111(OP) >no news
good they dont want to be on the news like you kneelers >no major events
you mean like the major events going on in your country right now faggot lol >no major figures
mutt education >no interesting history
mutt education >no culture
americans talking about culture LOOOL, they have lots of culture like every other euro country >no real achievements
this ones says it all really, Portugal and Spains achievements led to the discovery of the Americas and Portugal specifically were the first to find Asia and circumnavigate the world all while being a fraction of the size of all other euro countries, you're a literal brainlet for this one. >no significant wars
they literally fought the moors out of the Iberian peninsula along side the Spanish and also fought alongside the British many times, they weren't really involved in both world wars because they simply didnt need to given their geographic location >only interesting former colony is a shithole in South America
Brazil was comparable to america not that long ago, Brazil is the largest country and largest population in SA, Brazil is also based af with plenty of hotties so fuck you >outshined by its neighbor, Spain
Spain is literally triple the size of portugal you fucking absolute brainlet, despite that Portugal won an incredible war against them and the french with the help of britain (picrel) also spain is about to balkanize anyways.
the mutt education cliche is very real apparently.
I can summon you the situation with a french view.
Me, in the south west of France, place were you find the most portuguese people in France. They all vote far right and does not like refugees. They have the lowest level of diplomat per capita with the turks but are the population with the highest employment rate (unlike turks who have the lowest. More than the french).
So basically they are based and hard workers. Nice people, nice countries.
If their country wasn't corrupted, they probably would have already build a bridge to the moon.
Visited there some years ago and stayed at Cascais on the water. The people were very friendly, the seafood was great, so was the soup and the wine. Lisbon is a very pretty city, the fado is great. The countryside is beautiful, particularly Sintra in the mountains. I'd like to retire there, actually.
